College of Arts and Sciences

The commitment of the College of Arts and Sciences is to fostering critical thinking and creative expression.

All University students are challenged through study in the liberal arts to understand and appreciate the human condition by addressing the central questions of our cultural heritage and our relationship to the world. The liberal arts encompass the humanities, fine arts, and sciences. All baccalaureate degree programs in the University are grounded in the liberal arts.

The College of Arts and Sciences encompasses the departments of Anthropology, Art, Biology, Chemistry, Communication, English, History and Political Science, Mathematics, Modern Languages, Music, Philosophy and Religion, Physics and Earth-Space Sciences, Social Sciences, and Theatre. Each of these departments offers one or more majors and minors, described in the sections that follow.

The College of Arts and Sciences offers one interdisciplinary degree, an Associate in Arts in Liberal Arts.

Requirements for Major and Minors
